Prayer SUMMARY: PRES is a clinicoradiologic entity, combining seizures, blindness, and coma with MR imaging findings of predominantly vasogenic and occasional cytotoxic edema. In this clinical report, we determined the type of edema by using DWI and FLAIR sequences on MR imaging as well as ADC maps in 28 patients with PRES. The neuradiologic findings were correlated with levels of serum albumin, which is a main contributor to colloid osmotic pressure and vascular integrity. The presence of vasogenic edema was significantly associated with decreased serum albumin levels, which may be a particular risk factor for the development of PRES.

Cytotoxic Edema in Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome: Correlation of MRI Features with Serum Albumin Levels.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a clinicoradiologic entity with typical MR imaging showing predominant vasogenic and occasional cytotoxic edema. It is unclear whether MR imaging correlates with levels of serum albumin. We determined potential risk factors for development of cytotoxic edema in posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. MATERIALS AND ME...

Unexpected Maternal Convulsion: An Idiopathic Case of Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome after Delivery

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is associated with various clinical manifestations such as headache, blurred vision, confusion and tonic-clonic convulsion. Some of the predisposing factors for PRES include hypertensive encephalopathy, preeclampsia and eclampsia, lupus erythematosus, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and long-term use of immunosuppressive drugs. This condit...

Neuroimaging features and predictors of outcome in eclamptic encephalopathy: a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is associated with eclampsia. We assessed the distribution and nature of typical and atypical cranial MR imaging findings in these patients and their correlation with clinical and laboratory data and predictors of outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-five clinically confirmed cases of eclampsia were included in this prospecti...
